Our Journey of leading agribusiness enterprise undertaking opportunities for growth
On 26th May, 2013- Jibike and Rotimi, a young man and lady in courtship working towards marriage decided to create an agri-food business that will address food security issues globally, create wealth, employment opportunities for youth and women, and ensure affordability and availability of nutritious meals across the world, they combined the initials of their first names J (Jibike) and R (Rotimi) to create JR Farms. At this time, Jibike was 19-year-old while Rotimi was 24-year-old.
Jibike, fondly called “The Joyful Baker”, raised in Ilorin Kwara State, Nigeria with passion for baking and culinary, Ajibike was raised by her mother who worked as chef with the government and trader after retirement. She grew up with a passion for food business, nutrition and recipe formulation and implementation. She started baking under the age of 10 with the goal of building a global bakery franchise chain and culinary school.
Raised in the ancient town of Oyo town, Nigeria, prior to starting JR Farms, Rotimi, following his passion for agriculture, invested his time in advocacy, writing routine articles in the news and blogs about the importance of agriculture and the need to recruit young people across Africa and other parts of the world into agribusiness to secure the food future of humanity. He became a regular voice in popular national dailies and international platforms, in 2012, he was interviewed on Aljazeera about youth employment in Nigeria through agriculture.
Jibike and Rotimi’s mission blended, since May 2013, they have created JR Farms, JR Cakes and Cuisines, JR Homes and Hospitality, JR Coffee and Global Beverages which has now grown into a multinational group of companies with subsidiaries in five nations. With a fast growing global population, demand for food is expected to grow quickly across the world. The paradox, farmers are getting old globally, and younger people are less interested in agriculture- this poses a major danger to the food future of humanity if it persists, it is on this premise that JR Farms drive to “secure humanity’s food future” was founded. JR started with definite 5 cardinal goals:
Starting from Nigeria in the cassava value chain, the business has grown and expanded to Rwanda, where it works with local partner and coffee farmers to produce coffee for global market; Zambia where it operates a factory and coffee shop; France where is works on various initiatives including import and export of agri-food products, agri-consulting, among others; Canada where it promotes cross border trade of agri-food products from Africa.
Currently, JR Farms Group operates three factories, 16 coffee shops in 2 nations and works with more than 9,000 networks of farmers in 3 countries. Through its coffee shop chains, the JR Group serves more than 4,000 customers daily in two countries with growing potential to scale and capture bigger markets. Beyond agribusiness, JR Group invests in real estate with various real estate projects spread across Nigeria, in the meantime. The Group employs more than 120 staff in four countries and creates over 400 indirect jobs across its operation chain.
